hill
Synonyms: hills, hillside, hillock
Preanalysis assumption: “hill” is a shape symbol, and elevation; it should therefore stand for penis. We will find however that it stands for cervix more often, possibly occasionally also for clitoris. One should expect it really to be a symbol for the breasts, but as far as I have been able to observe till now the outer female auxiliary genital, the bosom or the breasts, do not figure in Emily’s expressed sexual experience. I may have overlooked such occasional significance in the symbol “heart” and may have to check on that later on. “Hill” could be expected to stand for the mons veneris also, but here again I must say that mention of the mons just does not seem to take place in her poetry.
